Letter to Austin Kleon

Dear Mr. Kleon

This book is like no other book of read. I was actually inspired by it. It taught me that it was ok to take ideas form other artists and make them into your own. 

My favorite part is when he says “if you ever find that you are the most talented person in the room, you need to find another room”, in chapter 5. it means that if you are the most talented person, then you need to go to another room to learn from the most talented person there. to take in his information and what he has to say. you have to sit next to him/her.

After reading this book, I have noticed that I’ve been incorporating the ideas of this book in my work. like the other day, i saw a idea for a picture and i really liked it so I took the idea, and put my own spin on it. The image was really successful.

I have started my own swipe file. And thus far I have a few pages worth of ideas!

If you are an artist, and you are struggling, read this book. Even if you have read it countless of times before. It will have you inspired and creating art again in no time!

Transparency Project

After all of the hard work that went into this picture, i finally got it. Its finally done. I had to fight against wind, wait a few days in order to get this location, and finally get the right proportion of the model after hours of shooting. I made this to play with the idea of memory, and the way we perceive it. I desaturated and sharpened the area around the subject to show the hardships of the reality we sometimes live, while the subject, or the memory, stays colorful and soothing.

In this photo, pattern is portrayed due to the identical squares that are the same distance away from each other, and same size.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Escape

When you read the word escape, you usually think of high adrenaline situations and different ways someone can escape. In my case, I had a really nice motorcycle sitting in my studio, so I decided to set up a couple of lights and shoot it. This is my photo for the weekly photo challenge.

I think this picture shows a clash of cultures, both american and italian. The italian culture obviously being the pizza, and the american culture that turned it into something as easily accessible as dialing a phone number.

In the picture, a long exposure was used in order to show the movement of me picking up the bottle, and the bubbles of the carbonated water flowing upwards while fighting gravity

We don’t usually think about it but if we stop and look round, modern society is changing all around us. however, we are so used to drastic changes that we don’t notice. its hard to believe that almost 50 years ago, the urban landscape looked nothing like it dies today.
